My name is Karen Bareuther. I’m a fine artist from Pretoria (South Africa) specializing in live wedding and event painting, but occasionally I enjoy doing illustrations and portraits in pencil. In the past, I have pursued several career paths in the creative field (i.e. teaching, on-air graphic design for a TV station, and even project management for corporate art projects), but I discovered my true passion when I did a live painting at a friend’s wedding in 2016. I found live painting exhilirating and somehow ‘magical’. To me, it’s so much more than ‘documenting’ the event. The painting takes on a life of it’s own, and captures not only the scene, but also the atmosphere. It’s a process that still fascinates and amazes me after 30 years of painting!
